“Chonny Bashe” (Good morning) Original Oil on Canvas
Painted from pencil and charcoal sketches Sam did while sat on the roof of an old Iraqi prison, “Chonny Bashe” (good morning) shows the landscape of Suli just after sunrise. The old Iraqi prison was named Manilla camp. It was very basic - cramped cell rooms and intermittent power cuts. Even though living in this place was hard, Sam’s lasting feelings of living here are those of laughter, contentment and peace, all set against the pink mountains of the morning sunlight.
